Can I connect my wired Linksys router (BEFSR41) to my wireless Linksys router (BEFW11S4)?

I have an older notebook (PII 400 MHz) that I ONLY use for casual internet browsing. My two other systems have private info on them, so I want them to stay completely out of the wireless world.

I was thinking that I could connect my DSL Modem to my WIRED router with the Private PC's on it, then connect the WIRED router to the WIRELESS router for the notebook. Is this possible?

I'm aware that I can connect the Private PC?s to the wireless router with Ethernet cable, but I think I prefer to keep the Private PC?s completely off the wireless broadcast.

You have two options.

Option 1. Connect the second Router via its WAN port. That would create two independent networks and insolate the two PCs but you would not be able to use normal File and Printer Sharing.

Option 2. Connect the Wireless Router as a Switch with an Access Point. That would yield a normal one Network; the PC would be on the same Network regardless of where they are plugged. Sharing and mapping would be normal.

What Jack said. Assuming youd' want option 1 since you said you want the wired PCs to not be accessible from the wireless network. Not positive if you then have to leave DHCP turned on on the wireless router or not but I did when I had mine setup that way.

Don't you need a crossover cable between them, when connecting two routers like that?

Regular Switch/Router Port to WAN Port Straight CAT5e.

Regular Switch/Router to Regular Switch/Router Crossover CAT5e.

If the Routers Data Sheet calims that the ports are Auto-MDIX, then it does not matter.
