I have a new cable internet connection.

When i make the connection directly thru the cable modem to the computer, i get speeds of 975KB/sec - 1.05MB/sec.

However, when i first went thru my router (D-Link DI-704P) the speed dropped off to 330KB/sec.
I then upgraded the router's firmware and now get speeds of 600KB/sec.

There is curently only one computer hooked up to the system, as i'm trying to solve this problem before hooking up the second computer.

I still think a 40% speed decrease in UNacceptable from the router (am i wrong)?

Any suggestions on where to look for the source of the drop off in speed?

THANKS!!

PS- i'm running a Win98 machine, modem is a Motorola SB4100, router is a D-Link DI-704P, please ask any questions if you need more info about my setup

1MB/sec. (B=Byte), WOW this is the best Internet connection I ever heard of.

You probably mean 1Mb/sec (b=bit).

I am curious how you measure your speed?

BTW: 1 Byte = 8 bits.

Hmmm I have the exact same setup, haven't noticed a decrease in speed. How are you measuring this?

I personally did not have any problems that I noticed with the same modem and router models. There is quite a bit of conversation in the forums at:

about this problem, it seems that the motorola 4100 has speed issues when it is connected to any router regardless of the brand or model. I returned my D-Link 704P and my motorola 4100 for a Linksys BEFSR41 and the modem for a Toshiba 1100u...Just incase a problem did ever arise.
