first of all, i'm new at this so please help me out. educate me.
i'm sharing a cable connection with my neighbor through a linksys router and its working fine.
i try to expand the connection to my other computer (located upstairs) by getting a router (its also a linksys, wireless accesspoint though) of my own, and it doesn't work. anyways, i find it so hard to describe everything so i've drawn a diagram of how i set it up. pls take a look at it and tell me what is wrong with it. also, please suggest me what i should do to get it to work.

You would really just be better off with a switch. I don't think it will work, but you can try setting it up for DHCP. It should pull an address off the other routers DHCP server. Are you getting an IP? What does your router say when you go to the administrative control panel?

i'm not getting an IP from the other router. is there any way to set this up without having to connect my upstairs computer to my neighbor's router?

Sounds like what you want to do is turn off all DHCP functions on your wireless router and just use it as an access point only (a wireless switch)... Then the other Linksys router should provide all your machines with addresses and work fine.

I can't tell you how to specifically do this, as I don't have any experience with Linksys' wireless product interfaces, but you should be able to find it either in your documentation or on their support website.

Or, if possible, you might just return the wireless router and buy an access point - save some money, too...
