I currently power off my system [ including my modem ] when not in use at home. Can I shut off a router when connected to the modem and system?
 
Yeah, you can.

When you switch it On, the best course is to switch first the Modem.

Wait a minute and switch on the Router, then after another minute switch On the rest of the network.
