Router problems

How can you tell when your router's broken?

here's the situation. I have an airlink AR670W 150N wireless router. I can't connect to the internet through the router. Plugging in directly to the cable modem, my computer can access the internet. Plugging directly into the router, I can access the router settings, but I can't access the internet (the router's connected properly to the modem). I already tried resetting the router to factory defaults. I installed the router 2 days ago, and everything has been working fine since. The problem suddenly occurred today. It also was working momentarily after I reset to factory defaults, but it stopped after I had changed wireless security/settings only (even tho I was still connected via ethernet).

I tried everything I could think of. I could always connect to the router (the settings) but couldn't connect to the internet through the router. Is this a sign that there's a problem with the router, or is there something else I can try?

I dont know about your cable service, but if i change the device the cable modem is attached to, ie from my pc to my router, the modem requires a reboot
