ok the problem im having is whenever i'm connected to AIM or ventrilo i always get disconnected every 1-3 minutes, and i have to manually reconnect and then it will keep booting me every few seconds/minutes...i do NOT have a problem while im browsing the internet or playing video games, i never get disconnected while doing those things...
i contacted comcast and they had me do a traceroute and they determined that by the time i get disconnected from AIM or ventrilo i am already out of their IP...i'm connected through a linksys wireless router, BUT my computer is hooked up to the router through a wire, i have yet to try my connections going directly to the modem....any help would be appreciated

You kinda just answered your own question. If aim still drops out when you're directly connected to the cable modem then that would rule out the linksys router.

On the other hand you might want to consider reinstalling aim.
