I have my router plugged into my modem and 3 computers into the router. The router can renew and release IPs just fine. DHCP is enabled on the router. The computers get their IP addresses with no problem via DHCP and everything checks out just fine. All computers have link fine, and can ping eachother, but I can't get to the outside world. Anybody got any ideas? Router is a 3Com 3C510. Oh and by the way, when I go directly into the modem, it works flawlessly.

Cable Or DSL?

Cable needs MAC Clone?

DSL Needs PPPOE ID & Password?

Did you check what kind of cable you need from the modem to the WAN port? As strange as it seems, I ran across a router that required a crossover cable a few months back, took me awhile before I RTFM and found that little gem.

Have you looked on the configuration pages of the router and checked the WAN status? What does it say?

Nope, no need for a crossover. I was using this router fine for the past month. Had to unplug things today to move them around, went to plug everything back together and I got nothing. As far as the WAN status, it is getting the correct IP, DNS, and all the correct settngs perfectly. I just can't get to the outside world, even though it is getting the correct IP address, DNS, gateway, etc. when I release and renew from the router.

I don't know if this would help or not, but one time when I tried to connect my PC directly to the modem it got some DNS suffix. But when I tried to connect my PC to the router, it wouldn't go to the outside world and the DNS suffix was gone. I played around with my router, forgot what I did, but now there is DNS suffix on my PC again. And now it could connect to the outside world. : P

tjmaxz, the DNS suffix appears fine and correct, so we can rule that out also. That is what I can't understand here. Everything is setup EXACTLY as it was before and I can't see ANYTHING that is wrong with it after troubleshooting for well over an hour and a half today and its getting to the point where I might just go buy a cheap Linksys router because this is getting ridiculous.

If I was old enough to purchase a handgun, I would have also tried that by now. As far as a shotgun goes, hmmmm, I might stop by after work. If not that, a sledgehammer. Hopefully the firmware plan will work, otherwise, I am f'n clueless.

WOOOHOOOOO!! PROBLEM FIXED. Firmware upgrade fixed it, don't know why it worked fine before the upgrade, but who cares, as long as it works. Thanks all for the help you gave!
