Router Port Forwarding > Adding a Service

I am trying to set up a new service on my router which I will use for VPN setups and other stuff.

The Service name is PPTP

Service Type is TCP/UDP

Starting and Ending Ports are 1723.

But I can't seem to find a IP address to enter that will be accepted for the server IP address. How do I figure out which IP Address I can enter or is there a common range I can just pick from that will work??

PPTP is deprecated. Use something more current, like openvpn.

Yeah, PPTP is outdated and insecure. Setup an OpenVPN server instead.

Found a new open sourced VPN service called ZeroTier. www.zerotier.com

Haven't tried it myself.

But according to description it's very much like Hamachi (up to 5 free devices).

Not specifically designed for gaming.

No port forwarding needed.

Up to 100 devices for free.

Here's how you'd set it up:

• Host person creates a my.zerotier.com account and creates a Network there (Check the IPv4 Auto-Assign box)
• Host person gives the Network ID to everyone else
• Everyone installs ZeroTierOne
• Everyone tells ZeroTierOne to join Network ID
• Host person clicks Auth on everyone's device at my.zerotier.com
• Now everyone is on the same LAN 🙂

If OP has difficulty setting up OpenVPN, this is probably the easiest solution. There is concern about the middleman though.

Tested ZeroTier. Yep, it's just like Hamachi. But the UI looks less polished. Able to ping & browse file share using assigned private IP (starts win 10, 172 or 192) on 2 PCs.
