I have an older Netgear router (forgot the model, but it's just a basic one I got for about ~$40) and a brand new Linksys WRT45G. I'm thinking of selling the Linksys, but don't know if I should. Will performance be better with the Linksys? Sometimes I get disconnected from the internet and have to unplug both the DSL modem and the Netgear router to reset it. I don't know where the fault lies. But will the Linksys provide a more reliable performance or should I sell it?

Performance of What?

Depending on the version, the Linksys can be Flashed with 3rd party software and do few things that the Netgear can not.

For the list of DD-WRT feature (click on about in this page) , http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/ind...title=DD-WRT_Docu_(EN)

Some of the popular new features.

* Client Mode (supports multiple connected clients)
* Dynamic DNS (DynDNS, easyDNS, FreeDNS, No-IP, TZO, ZoneEdit, custom, and others)
* OpenVPN Client & Server (only in -vpn build of the firmware)
* PPTP VPN Server & Client
* QoS Bandwidth Management
* Samba FS Automount
* Show Status of Wireless Clients and WDS with System Uptime/Processor Utilization
* Site Survey
* SSH server & client (dropbear)
* Startup, Firewall, and Shutdown scripts (startup script)
* Transmit Power Adjustment (0-251mW, default is 28mW, 100mW is safe)
* WPA over WDS

There is No evidence that there is a real difference in this sense (as you posted above) between the Routers.

It might depend on the connection, the environment (in case of Wireless), and the specific unit in either models.

If you need any of the capacities thaa can be Flashed into the Linksys keep it.

Otherwise, it is a personal call.
