Router Out Of Ports

I've used up all the ports in my SMC7004ABR 4 port router. Do I need a switch or a hub to add more?
This is a home network with XP and Win 98 machines and I am sharing a cable connection. TIA 🙂

Yeah just buy an additional Switch/Hub.

Use a straight Cat5 to connect to the new switch Uplink.

Cross over CAT5 if it is regular port to regular port.

When you decide on the size of the Switch, don/t forget that you loose a port on each. I.e. 4 port SMC + 4 Port Switches = 6 available ports.

On a Network smaller then 10 computers, Switch or Hub does not make a difference.

Switch or hub it should work with either. The question is how much are you willing to spend and how many more ports do you need.

Thanks, I wasn't sure if I needed a switch or a hub. I only need maybe 4 more ports to allow for expansion and small LAN parties.

I hope it doesn't make a difference. I just picked up a hub from the FS/T forum.

I think you'll be all right. Just as long as you don't have too huge of a LAN party.

I don't imagine that I'll have more than 5 - 6 people playing.
