Router or server?

I'm thinking of what to do for our apartment this fall, I already have 2 extra systems and a 5 port 10/100 hub, but I have a strong feeling to get a cable router w/ SNMP...
What would be the advantages? The server would have storage (of course) but I dont think it needs it, I can last fine with my laptop and the other computers on the network.. Should I just upgrade the hub to a switch and leave the server there?
We'll be doing gaming (of course) and email, maybe a downloaded ISO every once and a while, and a web/ftp server (probally mapped to a domain.)

Basically I want something that will sit there in the closet and not piss off the roomies if it breaks (so either win2k server or a router in other words 😉 )

I think you may get a better response if you post this in the Networking.

Just a thought. You should get more detailed answers as my experience has shown me that they give good responses in that forum.
