Router newb needs help Plz

I have Qwest DSL service with a intel 2200 internal modem. I have a few gaming issuses that I could not resolve with the internal modem, so I purchased a Cisco 678 (originally from Qwest) and a Netgear RT314 router.
Heres the problem...

Qwest uses PPP protocol so I have to have a user name and password to connect. I have the Cisco 678 connecting (to the net) fine on its own, but when I hook up the router, I can't connect. My LAN works normally, just no internet.

I think I have the router set up and cabled correctly. I am getting the correct (wan/lan/internet) lights on both the modem and router. I'm sure I'm missing some simple setup step.

I can't get much support from Qwest since this is not the modem I purchased from them initially. Spent hours sifting through Pdf manuals on both units to no avail. Searched this site for both the modem and router with only ONE unrelated hit...odd?
Thx for any help.

Well Bozo, not sure how to do that, but I found a site that told me how to find my MAC address, and there is an entry on the router setup that says something like "Spoof this MAC address". There was not enough room to enter the whole thing unless I leave out the dashes or dots, not sure what to do??

Since the router was used, I went ahead and reset it to factory defaults, installed latest firmware (3.25) and reentered my info- no luck.

Wondering if there is some 10.0.0..... number thing I have to configure in the Cisco modem so it can interact with the router?

Also, with my old modem, I had a qwest dsl connection in my control panel-network connections. I had it shortcut to my desktop and would have to right-click and pick "connect". Now I have nothing but my lan connection, and the cisco connects automatically on boot-up....as long as it's not going through the router. Do I stll need some type of visible log on to click once it's connected to the router?

And finally, when the modem and router are hooked up, but I have not yet entered my info for the router (its clean), I can go to a screen that shows IP adresses and WAN 10.0.0.2. As soon as I enter my info and check it again, the WAN #s are all 0.0.0.0. I know this is telling me something, just not sure what.

At this point it appears you have something configured incorrectly.

How does your configuration differ from what is shown here?

What OS are you using?

It may save some time to tell you that in your Router configuration, under WAN MAC address, put a check next to Spoof this PC's MAC address - IP Address. In that box should be the IP address of your computer, not the MAC address of your network adapter. This is why it wouldn't fit.

Don't forget to reboot everything. Although not always necessary, it is a good idea to reboot your modem, router and PC in that order before declaring your setup to be not working.

Got off the phone with Qwest...problem solved.

It seems with the Cisco 678, you DO NOTHING with the router setup, just plug and go.

I made the mistake of following the router instructions, and of course I feel like an idiot spending 8 hours trying to slove the problem when the Qwest guy said "erase your router setup and click on your home page"!!!!!!!!
