Hey all, I'm new here. I was wondering if anyone could help me with this problem I am having. It seems that when ever I shutdown my laptop and then turn it on, it can not connect to the same network it was previosuly connected to.

For instance, I connect to my roomate's wireless router with my wireless card. It works just fine, then for no apparent reason when I restart my computer it does not automatically connect to my roomate's router. In the window where you choose a wireless connection I double click on my friend's SSID which has 5 full bars of signal and it says "waiting on network." Yet it does not connect to the router. I've tried everything from restarting the laptop, removing the battery, disabling and renabling the adaptor.

Then the odd part occurs, if my roomate resets his router, without changing any settings. My laptop can connect just fine. I'm glad it works but I hate to keep bugging my roomate to reset his router for me to connect. Any help is welcomed thanks!

Does this happen with other networks you connect to or just your roommate's?

Perhaps firewall on your laptop controls the port traffic?

Enabled auto reconnect to non-preferred network if you are willing to get connected to any network around you which includes your roommate's!

It happens only on occasion when I connect to my wired network back home. Which makes me belive it is some setting on my machine as my roomate's laptop never has this issue.

I have disabled Windows Firewall.

I just checked the box in the Wireless Network Connection Properties on the Advanced Button. This did not resolve issue.

I have a Dell inspireon that does that same thing, when i go between wired and wireless.

I have to scan for networks and manually connect. Win 2000 pro BTW. Then internet still wont work until i un tick the LAN options to auto detect proxy.

I have just gotten used to doing it.
