Ok so bacicly about a week ago our router (DI-524) stoped working, nuthing would make it work tryed resetting and such, just couldent get any internet from it via wirless or via ethernet/wan or whatever whitch is what my computer is on. So today whent out got a WRT54G hooked it up and everything put in all the settings and such via the cd utlity and every time i get to the point ware it checks the net i get an error msg saying it couldent detect insternet or something and to check PPPoE user name and pass and to cycle the motem. well nether of those worked. For PPPoE i just have my dsl username@isp.com and password the same as i would use to long into my account online, is this the right info for PPPoE? i dident get any other info saying its sopost to be anything els. Also that is what i had for the d-link router. Could my isp changed something thats causing me to not be able to use a router? If i just hook up directly to the motem its fine. Could it me some motem setting, like in 192.168.0.1 when connected directly to the motem?

Any/all help and siggestions greatly apresheated. Kinda need to get this working as soon as posable.

Did bacicly what that page says.

I ran/whent throw the cd got from my ips whitch connected directly to the motem re set everything up and such then hooked the router back up and both computers that were connected to the router could get net but as soon as i tryed to setup the router again both lost net at the same test, the one that gives the PPPoE error and says to cycle the motem.

Since you can connect directly to the modem you must have the PPPOE software on the computer. Find the ID and password from the PPPOE software, it is not always the same as On line log On to you email and or ISP Account (ID might be your user name without the @isp.com).

Otherwise, call the ISP and ask what is your ID and PW.

Tryed what i thought it is with and with out @isp.com same thing. Im going to call them tomarrow. But could there be anything becideds that it could be?

What should the router be on DHCP,PPPoE,Static ip etc? The motem is PPPoE so would the router be also? with the same user name and pass?

Guess ill add some more info, All the time im trying to config the router via the cd the laptop is connected exsept for when it checks if it can connect with the router and when it trys and checks the net at those times it disconnects for about 5 sec or so. If i go to network connections right click>repair i get a DNS cashe cannot be cleard.

Help apresheated,

Ok tryed to set PPPoE manualy, i.e 192.168.1.1.. and from there and still cant connect. And under status if i click connect it just trys and cant connect.

Is there anything i need to put for host name and domin under PPPoE?

Set it to suto DHCP and any wired comp works. Any one know what would cause this? Shouldent it be PPPoE?

Ahh sorry about any spelling errors...

Any way it is working now but only on DHCP and not PPPoE and under Advanced Routing set to gateway. If that means anything, Shouldent it be on router and Lan and Wireless?

Not much help :-(

Lol any way this is a verson 5 WRT54G and aprently it pritty much sux, buggy less RAM less ROM cheap less cpu not linux.. Dont see why linksys would do this. Any way i think im going to go with the WRT54GS. Any one have this one? looks like nay firmware for the WRT54G's v4 and lower can be used on it. Havent herd any complaints. Any one know of any other router that would be better than the GS?
