Well, i have a netgear MR814 that just seems to die. Today it went out much faster than usual (it would generally stay on all day fine, but when i'd go to sleep and wake up, it's dead). Reseting the power seems to kick it back on, but today, it seems after 20 minutes or so, it dies again.

i thought it might be overheating so i propped it on it's side w/ the stand but still no good.

Thanks,
Linh

Have you tried updating the firmware? If that doesn't work/ isn't posisble, I'd get a new one.

blah..... when did i get this... probably in April/May of this year.... maybe i should have bought it at best buy w/ a replacement plan :p

but yeah, I have the latest firmware installed. Now that I think about it, I just recently did that... maybe i'll try going back to the old one.

Usually, if it's under 1 year old, you can get a replacement under the mfr's warranty. That Best Buy plan is the biggest scam ever anyway; they wanted me to pay $40 for a 4 year plan for a $40 keyboard. I said "Umm, for $40, couldn't I just buy a new keyboard?" The clerk was speechless. :p

About the best buy replacement plan, it is a scam. I bought a Compaq Presario 1240 laptop there about 4-5 years ago, and got the 3 year warrenty for about $200. I have had a couple problems with the laptop, most related to the CD-ROM drive. Anyway, I took it in for service, and left it there for like a week. I got the latop back, and had the EXACT problems. It turns out that they just cleaned my cd-rom drive out, not replaced it. So, I took it back and told them what I found. They told me that they *did* replace it. So, I showed them that I had the same problems. So left it another week and when I got it back, same drive, same problems, BUT, they reformated it, without asking me. So, I go back into the store, and demand a refund for the bullsh*t warrenty. They gave it to me ;)!

here's a tip, maybe illegal ;x go to best buy, find the same router, buy it, return the old one as long as it doesnt look busted and used. just say it doesnt work. done and done.

ermm, for a NOT so illegal way, buy the same router, go back to customer service and demand they fix it (your old one), return the original for refund.

as big of a hassle as it is, for a laptop, i've learned getting the extended warranty can be quite beneficial.. at least from what i've seen w/ laptops.

as for the router... i dunno, it doesn't outright fail now (flashed to old firmware, flashed to new again), but last night it needed me to reset the MAC address... ugh. awaiting tech supports email..
