Router issue

Apparently I just bought a router. I enable WEP but for security, how could I check my router log to see who use it instead of me?

you say it as if you werent aware that you bought it 🙂

if its an option run WPA instead...more secure. if its not an option, look into a firmware upgrade from the manufacturers site. your client devices would also need to suppor this security method as well.

for the logs, it depends on which type of router you have. Check for a Status tab with a DHCP Client Table or an Associated Wireless Clients list. also check under administration and enable logging, then check the inbound/outbound logs.

you routers web interface. default is usually 192.168.1.1. from the sound of it you have never webbed into it, so youll use the default username and password. itll either say it at login or check this website to find out what it is:

after gaining acceess, go to the administration tab and change the admin password. then proceed to the steps in my previous post.

One very interesting approach is to read the WPA section of the manual.

Hey, I do not have a manual?

The manual is usually in a form of PDF file on the CD that came with the Device.

Hey, I do not have a CD?

Log to the support Site of your Device and download the manual.

Hey, I do not know where is the Support Site of my Device?

I can not tell you because you did not post the name a specific model of your device.

From the weakest to the Strongest..
No Security
MAC
WEP
WPA-PSK
WPA-AES
WPA2
-------------------------------------------
WEP, WPA, and WPA2- http://www.ezlan.net/wpa_wep.html

Wireless Security - http://www.ezlan.net/Wireless_Security.html

The security must be set according to lowest capable Wireless component.

I.e. even most of you Wireless are capable to do WPA2, but one device is only capable to do WEP, the whole system must be configured to WEP.
