Hi all,
Can some1 help me with my network problem?

I've a Netgear cable router connected to my BT open reach modem and i've got a 2nd cable router in my bedroom. both are connected by wire. All was going well, then when i brought a WD cloud drive and connected it with a netgear extender in my entertainment room i noticed that i couldnt surf the net from my bedroom, i kept getting cut off from the net.

Checking my pc's ip address, it had changed to a address out of my network pool.

I've tried to change the ip address of my bedroom router but am no getting any luck.

Any help as to anyone knowing what the hell is going on??

Thanks.

1) router model numbers?
2) How is the network connected? Include port types.
modem ---- WAN(netgear router)LAN ---- LAN("2nd" router)LAN --- (netgear extender) ----- )netgear extender ) ------ (WD cloud drive)

If its getting a 169.x.x.x then its not getting a addy from the router. That 169 number is what Windows assigns when there is trouble. IP addy conflicts, DHCP conflicts or downright connection issues can cause this.

Hope this helps.

hi all.
not sure how to upload a picture, which would of showed how my network is planed out.
Anywayz, Main router that is connected to the phone modem is a WNDR4500, bedroom router is a WNDR3700v2, entertainment room and living room routers are the extenders WN2000RPTv2. all are netgears.

The wndr4500 is wired to the living room extender and to the bedroom wndr3700v2 and the wndr3700v2 is wired to the entertainment room (2nd room) extender at the moment. the nas drive is in the 2nd room wired.
all are setup to be in a network group and the ip address starts as 192.168. . but the router in the bedroom is the only router that starts with 10.0.0.

I can surf the net but i cant connect to my nas drive cos of that 10.0.. ip

Ive just turned off the DHCP server option in the bedroom router but havent done anything else just yet.

q.is this all any extra help?

A network to be of one subnet can not have more than one Router.

Any additional Router has to be configured like this.

Using Wireless Routers (or Modem/Wireless Router) as a Switch with an Access Point - http://www.ezlan.net/router_AP.html

Also explain what exactly you mean by Extender. People tend to call varoius different Network configuration using the word Extender.
