Router into a Router home Network Trouble (I got $10 Paypal to whoever gets this working for me)

Ok here is my Equipment -

Modem - Alcatel SpeedTouch Pro (w/ Built in router) - My network of 2 computer works fine on this as is (w/ dlink hub)

I want to add my notebook as a wireless connection. I was given a Netgear Wireless Router (MR314)
I took out the hub and ran modem into the wireless router. I cant figure out how to setup
the wireless to get everything working again. Since the modem is a router Im not sure what settings im looking
at putting in on the wireless router.

1. The Gateway IP for teh router would be the modem right?
2. This would be a ethernet setup in the wireless router not a PPPOE (my internet connection)?
3. I should not have to enter all my ISP information into the wireless router?

Any help would be appreciated!

Does your wireless box have a regular RJ-45 port for the LAN side (I don't mean WAN)?

If so, just use the wireless router as a bridge. Plug your two computers and the LAN port of the wireless router into your modem/router. You don't need the routing functions of the wireless router if your modem is already a router.

Remember you'll need to use an uplink port on the wireless router or a crossover cable or something.
 
Sounds like you want to kill all the router features of the wireless router and make it just be a switch. Go to Netgear Support and tell it to search for support on the Mr314. Some of the specific items I think you want are

How can I designate my IP as Static on my router

Can DHCP be disabled on the router?

Can the router act as a DHCP client?

How do I disable the NAT feature?

If you need it, you can also download the Reference Guide (all 114 pages of it) -- some of the above info may be in there too. You can also get the latest firmware at the site.

You can also just email netgear or call them at 888-Netgear (888-638-4327). They offer 24/7 tech support.

Alternatively, see if there is a way to kill the router features of the Alcatel and just have it be a modem.

Also, I suspect you won't be able to configure the MR314 while it is connected to the modem (the double-router conflict will block it.) So, take the modem out of the picture temporarily, and hook up the router via ethernet directly to a pc. From that pc, fire up your web browser, and type in 192.168.0.1. That'll give you access to a configuration menu. Default username is admin, default password is 1234. If defaults have been changed and you don't know the new values, you'll have to reset the router (see the online help or installation guide).

At least, that is how it works on my (different) Netgear Router. The installation guide should tell you how to do things on the mr314 if things are different for it. Once you've killed the router features, you can hook the modem back up.

If you can figure out how to do it, killing the router capabilities of the Alcatel might be simpler. It would give you a more conventional sort of setup, anyway. The Netgear site can probably tell you what you need to do to get the mr314 to connect with your isp; it has directions for a bunch of providers there.

As I read through this list though, just calling up Netgear and having them walk you through it sounds better and better!
