Here's what I have hardware wise:

Linksys 4 port router connected to cable modem
Celeron 300A system with Netgear 10/100 NIC (Windows 2000)
K6-2 400 system with generic NIC (Windows 2000)
Dell Inspiron Laptop with built in NIC (Windows XP)

Everything was working fine till a couple weeks ago. The Celeron system doesn't get a DHCP address from the router anymore. The K6 system and laptop still connect fine. The celeron system is still set to Obtain IP automatically.

When I open up the command prompt and type:

ipconfig /release

i get:

All adapters bound to DHCP do not have DHCP addresses. The addresses were automatically configured and cannot be released.

when I type:

ipconfig /renew

i get:

The follow error occured when renewing Local Area Connection: An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket.

I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the NIC - didnt work at all, and giving it a static IP - saw the computer on the network, but still no internet connection. I've swapped cables and hubs, no difference.

I'm going to try another NIC card in it but can't get a hold of another one for a couple days. Any ideas on what the problem is and how to fix it? Thanks.

Open up IE and type 192.168.1.1. The password is admin and there is no user name. Go to the DHCP setting and see how many "Number of DHCP users" are allowed. If it is 2 set it to something higher.

forgot to mention i tried that, can't connect to the router, which is weird because I can see the other computers on the network connected by the router. DHCP is set to 50 users. If I were to give the machine a static IP, would it be in the 50, or outside of the 50? Thanks.
