I have been using dynamic adsl for 2 years and I only use regular hub to share ISP amoung 3 PC.
(since dynamic ip require winpppoe to "dial in", thus each of my pc simply using same username and password w/out the need to set up ICS or "Gateway" pc)

In two weeks I will have to move to a place where only Comcast Cable available.
My question is...what is the Easiest way to share ISP without setting up all the "gateway" PC or even use ICS?

Is it something as easy as aDSL that no EXTRA software to load:

Cable->Cable modem->router or hub->PC "s"?

Edit: which router support pppoe w/ at least 4 port + CHEAP!!!

That's how my 3 pc's are hooked up. The SMC Barricade I use handles the 3 pc's ip's. I did run into an ip problem when I first hooked everything up. I was running Win 98SE at the time and didn't know about winipcfg.

W/ adsl, I don't even have to assign IP on each PC. Do I have to assign IP w/ cable modem under winxp?
again, do I need router or just a hub w/ uplink port?

Like I said, I use the SMC Barricade which is a 4-port router. The router assigns each pc an ip. That's how all requests get routed to the right pc. No need for ICS, although WinXP will try to make you use it. Since the router assigns the pc's ip's, it makes setting up a home network child's play too. So my suggestion is to get a router. What kind of lan cable is required for going thru a hub, patch or cross-over? Patch is needed for the router config so you may have that additional expense.

An even easier way would have been to get a router that supports PPOE, then it logs in once for you, and shares the connection itself.

I had to do absolutely nothing to set my router up other than unplug my cable modem for a few minutes then start it up again so it could initialize w/ the router. I use a D-link Di-704P.. 4 ports + print server. No complaints whatsoever.
