When it comes to Consumer Hub/Switch it does not matter what you get.

The cheapest one that you can find is the best.

Not true ! We were playing a two person lan game through two 100 mbit switches, and it was lagging badly. Put both PC's on one switch, and it was fine. C&C Generals may be very badly written software, but still the ability of a switch to much more quickly route traffic can make a big difference. If you are sure your game doesn't need the bandwidth, then fine, but you can't make broad statements like you did above, simply not true. Also if you are going to spend the money, why not do it right, so it is of more use later.
