Router + Halo 2

How do you set up your router to allow you to host Halo 2 games? I have a Xbox 360 and I have it set up to a Linksys BEFSR41 V3 Firmware Version: 1.05.00. So, how do I set it up? I already tried port forwarding and stuff like that. But any help would be nice.

Are you using XBox Live?
Doesn't it choose the host for you?

Also, did you test your network settings on your 360 from the dashboard?

I also had my Xbox setup behind my linksys router on a LAN and I never could figure out how to get it connected to system link games. Xbox live worked just fine, but the system link never worked.

I'm trying to host games for my friends. Custom games, not matchmaking because matchmaking it does do it for you.

I'm trying to host on live not on LAN.

How does the Xbox get its ip addess? Does it have the ability to set it with a static ip? Do you know the mac address of the Xbox?

The easist place to start is to use the DMZ setting in the Applications & Gaming Tab - DMZ if I am reading your manual correctly. Use the Xbox ip address there and enable it and you wont need to worry if you got the right ports open as that will forward them all. If your Xbox dynamic address changes then you will not connect. Also what address do your friends try to connect to? Its most likely dynamic too so when you do your next test make sure the 2 ip addresses are correct. This is the easist way to initally see if you can make a connection. If you want a more refined setup using static address usinf the Xbox mac address and just opening just the specific port range for the Hallo 2 game let me know see I can figure the rest out.

Wow. I hadn't thought of that. That might work. Thanks for the help.
