Router getting BAD???????

Werty

Senior member
im in a computer shop.i have this router connected to a 24port 3com swith, then another 24port connected to the switch. this router shares internet to 35 workstations for games & internet access. my problem is this whenever about 20+ workstations would access internet(like playing online games & internet) simultaneously, i would get Ping timeouts(im pingin my isp dns & gateway) like every page or so. is this jst normal or my router getting bad? or is it that theres limit on router on how many can simultaniusly access it and gives timeout errors when it cant handle the load... TY

btw, my normal PING when i dont have that timeout is about 22-30ms

Thats 48 ports connected to that router. Most likely that router is not powerful enough for the load you are trying to send through it.

overloading the router.

It's not meant to handle that, especially if it is games.

also check the cabling between the switches and to the router. Make sure that both sides of the link are set to auto detect speed/duplex.

A SOHO linksys router handling 20 simultanious workstations? I'd say your definately overloading the router. 20 isn't SOHO, you need a more business class router for all of that.

thanks for the advices... ill try changing the cables 1st, if this wont help, then maybe a better router will be definite..

thanks....
