Router/Firewall Recommendations, Please

Installing a new PC in my home office. My ISP is Comcast Cable. I'll be on a network with one other PC. I prefer a wired system, as there is only one common wall between PC's, so connecting them physically is no problem.
I now have an old Netgear RT314 that has served me well, but I figure why not get something later and greater, especially since routers are fairly inexpensive. My two priorities are firewall protection and ease of set up and use. I want to plug in and forget about it.
What do you all recommend? Thank you.

I'm thinking that after five years, why not replace the old unit? I assume advances have been made in inernet security in that time. And I'm seeing highly rated units available for under $50.

Looks like your RT314 has a firewall with SPI and that's what current routers have too. You might not have VPN pass through on your router, so if you plan on using VPN I guess a new router would allow that. Most of the router evolution seems to be on the wireless side, in this price range wired routers seem pretty much the same they were five years ago. Maybe a prettier web interface? Nothing signifigant that I can think of.

LOL. No you can use the money and buy few poetry books.

But FishTaco is right. Unless you have a specific need (like you want your New Router to be VPN End Point) there is nothing new in Wired Routers beside the color of the Plastic Casing.
