Router + DSL Modem in bridge mode - Gateway on different subnet

Hello guys,

Im trying to setup a old Alcatel Speedtouch 716 in bridge mode so it passes on the public ip to a wrt54g router. After fooling around with the bridge mode setting and different routers/computers figuring out why it worked only sometimes it turns out the bridge mode implementation (or dhcp spoofing) in this modem gives out the public ip fine but the gateway is in a different subnet. From what I've read windows doesnt have any problem with this but linux (& the wrt54g) does and consequently no routing takes places. Do you guys know any workarounds for this.

Thanks.
