I have a Belkin 802.11b wireless router and am using it with SBC/Ameritech DSL (PPoE). First off, all of the computers are wired to the router so this is not a wireless issue. If I log into the base station there is a setting where you turn off the feature that will auto disconnect after a certain period of inactivity (it goes up to 99 minutes). I am not using the auto disconnect feature.
Everything worked fine for the first week. I had no disconnects at all. All of a sudden I started getting disconnects. It's a pain in the a$$ because it will not simply reconnect once a computer on the network asks for an internet connection. I have to log into the base station and reset it. I'm pretty sure that this is a problem with the router because the ISP never automatically dropped connections previously.
My solution for right now is to simply keep my email running all of the time and have it check for new mail every 60 seconds. However, I don't really want to leave the email running all of the time. Is there something else that I can leave running all of the the time that will periodically use a connection. Anyone else have any ideas for a better solution.
Thanks!
