Router Cutting bandwidth

I have Comcast Cable (the 8Mb version). My router which I used with DSL is working fine, but one thing I noticed is when I plug into the router I drop my connection speed to 6Mbps instead of the full 8 as when I plug my computer in directly.

My question is very simple. Is there any router that will give me a full 8Mbps? I mean the Ethernet ports are 10/100 so I really don't see why it should be cut down like that. Obviously splitting the signal gives some loss, but I was wondering if any router out there would do better.

There are many that will give you those speeds.

While the ethernet LAN ports are 100Mbps, and hell, the WAN port might be as well (for compatibility) there is no way the processors in those routers can send traffic thorugh that fast. Keep in mind that if you have SPI (stateful packet inspection ) it is checking EVERY SINGLE ITTY BITTY packet against a ruleset, and that it is USING NAT< and has to translate those addresses.

According to Tom's Networking, the average ceiling for the Linksys WRT54G/GS router will be somewhere between 17-22Mbps, baring a lot of rules such as QoS, and a million ACLs (access contron lists)

I see, well my router is by no means brand new...I am very familiar with networking but not the capabilities of each router.
