Router/connecting help with SBC...

Hi! I recently got a Belkin 4-Port Cable/DSL Router to use my SBC dsl on 2 pcs. I havent tried networking the 2 pcs yet, but I cant even get one of the pcs to work. 🙁 I plugged the modem ethernet cable into the "WAN" part of the router and put a new ethernet cable from my ethernet card to one of the slots in the router. I cant connect after that. When I use SBC's Connection Manager, it sorta connects. (There's 3 boxes...My Computer, SBC Network, and one other one, when I try to connect, there's an ok for My Computer, but an X for SBC Network). When I use the ie connection manager, it says no answer...🙁 Does anyone know what's wrong?
 
You don't use SBC's connection manager anymore. The router connects for you. Log into your router config (usually http://192.168.0.1 or 1.1) and set up a PPPOE connection with your SBC login and password.
 
Yeah, the router tells me to type in that 192.some#.#.# thingy in IE, but when I do, the IE DSL Connection Manager pops up and tells me to connect..
 
Just tried that and it says "This page cannont be displayed". I didnt type http or anything..just the #s in the manual of the router..
 
I set up a netgear router at the wife's office with SBC DSL. igowerf is correct, you don't want to use the connection manager. You have to get into the configuration for the router. It sometimes takes a minute or so to get in. Don't know why.

Are all the proper lights lit up on the router? I would also try unplugging the router for a full two minutes. Getting into the config is the key. You may be making a simple mistake. I often do when things don't go right.

I just got sbc also and followed these instructions from the sbc/ameritech forums over at www.broadbandreports.com http://www.dslreports.com/forum/ilec,am (awesome resource)
Be sure to have your log in info and enter the complete thing i.e. *username*@sbcglobal.net

and set one up once you have that and set it up in the router you will be able to log on.one mention about the reg link is, after a certain page, it just goes to a blank page and says done in the lower left?!?! as long as you set up the user name you should be good.btw for linksys it was 192.168.1.1 and enter admin as password

"This is all you need, no DNS, no nothing.

1) Shut your computer down
2) Plug your Ethernet cable from your modem into the "Wan" port on the BEFSR41
3) Using a "Straight Through" Ethernet cable plug that into your computer's Ethernet card and into the any one of the "1" through "4" Ethernet ports on the BEFSR41
4) Make sure your modem and BEFSR41 are plugged in and powered on
5) Boot up your computer
6) Make sure that your Ethernet card is using DHCP
7) Launch your web browser
8) In the navigation bar type: "http://192.168.1.1" then hit "Enter" on your keyboard
9) Leave the "User Name" field blank and type "admin" as "Password" then click "OK"
10) Check off "Enable" beside the "PPPoE" header. Enter your "User Name" (for your user name make sure you include your ISP's domain as part of it. I.E.: for Verizon it would be userid@verizon.net) and "Password" as supplied by your ISP. Check off "Enable" under "Connect on Demand" Then click on "Apply"
11) Reboot your computer
12) Surf Away!

Or, do it manually using the following as the PPPoE login:

Username: sbcyahooreg@sbcglobal.net
Password: sbcyahooreg

if you can't log on later(in the future) hit the reset button on the router...just tap it don't hold it for more than 3 sec or it will set it back to default...

what kind of speeds are you getting? I got 1.5 on the first day...no caps...I signed up for 384-1.5 plus package.😀 knock wood.

Hm..now I seem to have a problem. When I try to use Outlook and check mail, the "Dial Up Connection" thing pops up and tells me to connect before I can check my mail. I'm already connected so when I dial, it doesnt work...How do I get rid of that popup?
 
To get rid of the pop up in MSIE, go into MSIE Tools->Internet Options->Connections and tell it to Never Dial a Connection.
 
I uninstalled my SBC software and hooked up my new router and followed these instructions in this post. However I went from having 1.2mb/245k to 300/245. I retested serveral times and one time it was even 45/265 LOL. What have I done wrong???

 
Ok most im getting now is 800k. Why was it faster using the SBC software?
Wish I could use the software and the router. Anyone have any ideas???

Try this:
Download DrTCP: <a target=new class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.dslre

Run the program, it will show the current settings of TCP/IP parameters. Write them down.

You can change any variable that you want, click Apply, and reboot the computer, if no good; you can always change to your original values.

Start with:

MaxMTU - 1492 for DSL

Tcp Receive - 255552

Window Scaling - Yes

Time Stamping - No

Selective Acks - Yes

Path MTU Discovery - Yes.

Black Hole - NO

Max Duplicate - 2

TTL - 64


 
Problem Solved! 😀 Was using the Onboard Lan with my K7S5A and switched to the Nic SBC sent me and it works great. Every speed test returned 1.182mb-1.183mb down and 245up. Glad I got that monster figured out!

That's interesting. A NIC shouldn't make a difference like that unless there was a problem with like settings. Most likely the DSL unit talks in half duplex and the onboard NIC was set to full duplex. When you put the new NIC in, it probably was set to autodetect and cranked right up with the DSL Modem.
