Hey Networking,
Trying to pick out a new router to use here at my fiancee's place. We've got 4 people in the house total, 4 computers, 2 gaming consoles, and a partridge in a pear tree. 😛
We're going to be having a lot of torrenting, gaming, downloading, web browsing, and streaming of music and movies going on all at the same time. The current router is a little Belkin and is constantly stopping, dropping, and just not doing its duty. We're running cable internet, I believe its Comcast.
So, I've got a few choices for the new router. It needs to have G and N capabilities, good range, ability to handle lots of heavy usage from multiple sources, and needs to come cheap. Impossible right? I hope not.
Now at home I have a Buffalo G54. Unfortunately another is just a bit out of my price range for this as I'd like to stay at or below 55$ maximum. And thats after shipping and NJ's 7% tax.
Current choices:
Buffallo WHR-HP-G300N
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833162033
Pros: Has everything I want. External antennae will probably help range.
Cons: 50$ before tax.
BUFFALO WHR-G300N
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833162026
Pros: 40$, seems to have the stuff I need.
Cons: Doubting range because of internal antennae.
NETGEAR WNR2000
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833122235
Pros: Heard good things about the 3000N model so I assume this one works well too.
Cons: 50$ before tax. Lower model may not be as good as the other one I've heard so much about.
ASUS RT-N12
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833320039
Pros: Have had good experiences with ASUS gfx/mobo products. Looks to be a decent router.
Cons: Never tried an ASUS networking product. Looks similar to a Netgear I had that crapped out.
