Router causing internet to disconnect

I'm using a Microsoft MN-500 wireless router with four people wired to it and two connecting wirelessly. What I'm finding, however, is that the router randomly is causing our internet to disconnect. The data lights on our cable modem become blank and the only solution is to disconnect the router for a minute and then plug it back in.

Anyone have any ideas about why this would be happening and a possible solution? I know it's the router, I'm just not sure WHY it's happening.

I'm using a different router and it's still doing it so I guess maybe it isn't a router issue. Now it's solved by disconnecting the modem from a power source.
