router as access point

i'm using my DIR-655 as a router.. I have a dlink DWL-2100AP thata I'm using as a bridge to put my printer on the wireless network.

I've used the 2100AP as an access point to provide greater coverage in the back of the house - I'm looking for another access point and noticed that they're quite pricey...

can I buy a router & configure it as an access point? what would work well with the above mentioned hardware?

When you configure a Wireless Router as an Access point you feed it with cable so the nature of the other hardware is Not an issue.
