I don't know the facts on Roundup. I rely on the government to hire experts to investigate that (requiring democracy to work instead of being owned by Monsanto).

But Monsanto is a company I think is very dangerous, with an agenda for pursuing its own profits by creating artificial monopolies, among other things.

Issues like genetic manipulation in food are being driven by corporate benefits, not the public interests, way too much.

that company is Satan.
Monsanto, while a lawsuit troll, has done much to advance agriculture, I dare say usher in an agricultural revolution. Want to increase the food supply? You have to deal with non-manure fertilizers, synthetic pesticides / herbicides and genetic modification.

The pursuit of profit is the goal of all companies. That is why we regulate the free market just enough to ensure that it remains free by breaking up monopolies, preventing select buyouts that create them, etc. It is also very important to prevent conflicts of interests, which is why it is dangerous for the government to own corporations or hold stock in them. You cannot expect entities to regulate themselves or affairs they have a stake in.

If this is true, we may have to re-evaluate our farming techniques or we may be slitting our own throats.
I'll wait to see some some more peer-reviewed studies on this matter before passing judgement. But, regarding superweeds, we have the same problems with organisms developing resistance to antibiotics. A promising alternative is engineering viruses to target specific bacteria. But, the public will never go for it, even if it is incapable of infecting other genera.

It doesn't suprise me, tbh. Roundup isn't just some consumer stuff that you spray on the one or two plants taking root in the crack of your driveway, or that lone dandelion amongst acres of meticulously groomed St. Augustine. It is used industrially, especially in crops like soybean. Monsanto had created a genetically modified soybean seed that is restistant to roundup. It has really helped to increase yields, but it has created a situation where they have a near monopoly on seed stock. Soybean farmers in many places can't even save their own seed (which has been essential to agriculture since we invented agriculture) due to the threat of lawsuit by Monsanto. They truly are an evil corp. The fact that Roundup may be harmful to the soil is just icing on the cake. We need to let farmers be farmers again.

Our University of Hawaii Ag College has been thoroughly corrupted by the
Ag Corps because many grads out of the college are immediately hired and put to work by Big Ag, then come back to Hawaii to work for them in the GMO test fields. To finish off the closed loop, they also get hired as instructors at the school.

Thus, the school will invariably come to the defense of Corporate Ag interests coming to Hawaii to run GMO experimental "farms" despite the danger to local farming and the general population consuming GMO tainted foods.

Hawaii, being isolated out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, is an "ideal" location to dabble in experimental GMO and stay out of the public eye.

Thats cool. I should be allowed to CHOOSE to eat that by seeing it on labels.

Im going the CSA route because I'm not a worthless poor person.

Interesting, when I googled who are the biggest stockholders of Monsanto a familar name popped up. George Soros has been holding a big chunk of stock (2.6m shares) in his hedge fund for past several years and just recently sold most of it.

I also found this interesting.

Monday’s report from Soros comes nearly a month after reports that he decided to turn his hedge fund into a “family office,” in a move that allows it to avoid a new level of regulatory oversight facing many hedge funds. Soros told clients that his firm, Soros Fund Management LLC, will no longer manage outside investors’ money.

The government is substantially owned by corporations and you know this and have posted in line with this, so I think a fear of companies like Monsanto in particular is extremely well founded.
