I like how the western digital has a lot lower cpu overhead than the others
I'm glad I got my 80gig WD

That Maxtor seems to come out way ahead of the others-- especially in copying files.. which is what you do with hd's.

Even though this wasn't the point of the article it would have been nice to throw in the 2meg equivalents of the maxtors and the Western Digitals where available to really drive home the point of how much that extra 8megs really helps.

I've got the 80gig JB in my personal machine and I will never go back to a 2meg drive for primary storage. Kudo's to Western Digital for having the balls to roll the 8meg cache out initially at the consumer level and leading the way for the other manufactures. I think my next harddrive purchase will put me back in the Maxtor camp though since they are my drive of choice.

The Maxtor numbers are not indicative of the rest of the family. The only model that will perform like that is the short stroked 68GB/platter 160GB model. Any other platter size for that capacity or any other capacity size will not perform as well.
