Okay I have a new mac mini mid model it has a 2.3 quad i7 cpu the model is i7-3610qm or maybe i7-3615qm.

Does not matter as it has an error pattern on prime95 for mac osx . I know mac mini are tough to cool when the cpu gets pushed. i grabbed one of these 799 usd models on a sale from jr.com. dropped in 8gb ram and started running a few high use cpu tests. The cpu fails in fact it fails without overheating as I did a very good after market cooling tweak. I just get a lot of round errors in the cores of the cpu.

I had 3 of the 8 cores have errors in one test and 4 of the 8 cores have errrors in the other test. Frankly I have never had a rounding error in an intel cpu that was not being overclocked like mad. Has anyone heard about the i7-37610qm or i7-3615gm being prone to this rounding error. I was able to get this to happen with stock ram and with aftermarket ram. I ran both cpu test and prime95

I am under warranty I just did not feel like doing a return if I am missing something. I post on macrumors a lot and a few of us have had problems with the new quad minis intels cpu and intel graphics to be specific (screen has random blackouts)

RMA it. Best thing.

Yeah I can't duplicate it on my 2011 or my 2010. mini's or for that matter I can't get it to happen on my 5 pc's running prime95.

It also has a few other quirks. Only 2 weeks old.

I think there is something wrong with it. logic board or cpu.

Yep, just RMA it. Thats the good thing about OEM. You dont have to figure out what exactly is wrong.

yeah I put in a ticket for replacement.

I posted here in the cpu forum just to see if thus was a known i7 3610qm issue.

my guess is my cpu is just a bit under par.

Its very very rarely the CPU. Its most likely voltage issues on the mobo.

yeah mini's have had mobo failures . I am a power user of minis.

I have owned and/or upgraded more then 400 since 2006. Sold a few hundred on ebay and some private builds.

When ever a new issue comes out I buy 2 or 3 test them and use them for a few weeks and then sell them on ebay. Buyer gets upgraded fully tested model at a good price and i make a few bucks. Keeps me in new gear. This is the third or fourth machine to be bad in 400.

Never failed the cpu test or the prime95 test. With any. mostly ram fails or sometimes a fan or the video out connection.
