I spent an hour tonite rounding all of my cables. I had read alot about doing this but was afraid of doing it wrong and partly too lazy to attempt it.
But tonite I decided I'd give it a try and I was surprised at how easy it is. The cables actually look square since I separated the the cables at about every 4th wire on the floppy cable and every 5th wire on the CD cable and my SCSI cable.
If you've got a ATA66/100 cable for the HD, it is recommened you not round this cable. So I folded this cable in 4ths like an accordian and that worked just fine.
I placed my cables flat on a magazine, pressed down with an exacto knife and tugged on the cable a bit to make a slit about a 1/2 inch and proceeded to separate the cable.
Then I neatly bunched up the cables and used plastic tie straps to hold the cable together. All of the cables now neatly hide behind the 3.5 inch drive bays and I used some long tie straps to hold them there.
If you look in my case from open side, you really cannot see any cables at all except for the ends that are sticking out of the drives.
Compared to the mess I had before, I can see where this will increase air flow in the case tremendously.
I strongly recommend this technique to anyone trying to squeeze out the last bit of cooling performance in their systems.
