im wondering where i can get some rounded ide cables that done have like 4" inbetween the 1st and 2nd device. my dvd rom and cd burner are right next to each other and i dont need excess cable sticking out creating air flow problems...

or maybe a should get single device cables? anyone know where to get those <10"?

FYI, with the rounded cables, some have boots on the ends that slide over the connector to make the cables look better. I have some of these in my case. When you have two devices next to each other you need all 4" between the 1st and 2nd connector on the cable to make the big U between the devices. Anything less than 4" and I don't see how you'd be able to connect both devices. Take notice of this when you're buying some.

I was going to say that the cheap cables I got from SVC seemed to be very short between the device connectors, but I've just measured one and its 6.5 inches. They've got the boots that techfuz mentioned which basically add 2.5 inches on that you can't bend that well. All the rounded cables I've seen have bits like that, so I don't think that you'll be able to find anything better. Maybe you'll have to go with single cables.

Yeah, I'd love to find the same thing. I have yet to find rounded cables with any less than 6" between the drive connectors. I always cut the boots off of rounded cables to improve flexibility.

What size would you need to connect your hard dirves in the bottom bay to each of the CD's in the top bay? THis is the config I want:

The 1st HD would be Primary Master with the DVD as Primary Slave.
The 2nd HD would be Secondary Master with the CDRW as Secondary Slave.

Do I need 18" or larger to do this?

Each case is different in the positioning of the hard drive bay and 5 1/4" bays. It's too hard to say which size cable will work best for you. Just grab a ruler and measure the difference between the hard drive IDE connector and the IDE connector on the back of the other device. Then go to the rounded cable manufacturers website and check the specs on the cables. They should have the distances between the connectors measured for each cable. I know I've seen it before on some product websites.
