Rounded Floppy Cables - Do ANY of them work?

I decided to switch to all rounded floppy and IDE cables about a good month or so ago. The IDE cables I got were from CoolerMaster, and worked great. No problems. I had ordered also a rounded floppy cable from coolermaster, but it was only a 2-connector one (From Mobo to Floppy drive). It did not work. Wouldn't detect my floppy drive. I then sent it back to newegg.com (where I had ordered it from) and got a different one, a 3-connector one. This one didn't work either. I then noticed that none of the connectors had that one pin blocked off on the mobo connector like a normal flat cable does. Is this the reason why it's not detecting my floppy drive? Has anybody else who has tried rounded cables had this issue? Any help would be much appreciated with this issue, as it's been bothering me for quite some time.

Have you tried flipping the connector around on the floppy side?... mine works but i switched floppy drives and pin 1 is now on the right side which requires me to twist the whole thing around... it was a whole lot easier with my old floppy. 😱

it is possible that the cable doesnt work, but that is very unlikely. try to flip the cable around? the red wire in the cable is usually toward the power cable. i have all rounded cables and everything works fine.

good luck

I've got a silver-braided Coolermaster one device floppy cable that works just peachy. Asus P4B533E to Sony floppy.

Follow the above suggestions and you should be OK. Are you sure your floppy drive is working? Have you tried it with a regular ribbon cable to make sure all is well?

My CoolerMaster rounded FDC cable (2 connector. PTC-F18) works perfectly. As for getting the plugs in wrong - that should not happen - they are keyed. Normal flat ribbon cables have a twisted cross-over section - and so does the CoolerMaster round.

I ran across a Sony floppy drive the other day that was keyed wrong. I had to cut the key off the cable connector to make it work.

You sure the drive was wrong...I had two bundled cables now that have had at least one end keyed wrong.

It's always the last thing I used to assume too....talk about a few hours of life wasted on a 25 cent cable.

Since the drives are pinned first and then the plastic cowle is installed later, I could easily belive it was keyed wrong. I've seen one floppy and one LS-1 keyed wrong.

I just put some Rounded Cables in my rig and accidently flipped the Floppy cable around, and the floppy did not work correctly until further inspection.
