roundabout VS 4-way

My only problem with the video is that they imply we don't have roundabouts here in the US.

We do, they just aren't as common as 4-way intersections. In my town, a 4-way stop was converted to a roundabout. Some people are still confused by it (stopping when there's no reason to), but it has helped tremendously.

This article mentions the phenomenally successful roundabout near me:

i wish there were more of them in the US they are awesome. lots of them in New England

there are 2 on my way into work

There are a lot of roundabouts in Colorado Springs. Morons here can't figure out how to use merging lanes let alone using the roundabouts.

we have several roundabouts near and in our neighborhood. i like them better than a 4 way stop. we do have some people who still don't understand that you don't need to stop or slow down unless there is traffic for the roundabouts, but that's usually few and far between. there seem to be a lot more people who dont understand who goes first at a 4 way stop when two people stop at once, or people who just straight up think they get to go whenever they want. so roundabouts work better imo.

My town has 4 of them. Don't particularly care for them since we're asking people that are barely capable of wiping themselves to understand a roundabout and I've had to avoid several accidents because of it.

Indiana has been putting in a lot of roundabouts. There are about 15 near me. The problem is that they put large obstacles in the center of the roundabout. This makes it impossible to see if some jackass is going 40 mph around the roundabout before you enter it.

This has lead to quite a few accidents near my house where people are entering the roundabout from a road where the speed limit is 55mph. They just whip around and anyone opposite of the large hill from them has no idea they are there.

On top of this there is the unfamiliarity with the round about. I've almost been hit head on 6 times now by elderly folk who don't know how to use a roundabout. I've also been in a long argument with a man who thought those in the roundabout yield to him (I'm still not sure how he figured this one...).

Overall, I'd much rather have a 4 way stop.

They are slowly showing up around here. A few in Ann Arbor and now some in windsor. They recently redid an intersection by my house and I was hoping for a round about but they put in michigan lefts instead. Yield > stop

A five way was replaced with a rotary in my town a couple years ago. Best thing that could have happened. Just saw a lady driving the wrong way around it the other day, though. I hate people.

I like roundabouts. They are showing up everywhere around here. I am a fan of the flow, as long as people know how to use them. (the only issue thus far, albeit a big issue)

Stop signs to me only work in low volume areas.

They are starting to install michigan lefts in my fair city. I know why Detroit is dying.

Roundabouts are awesome. Naturally, my fair city screwed them up. They built roundabouts but then put stop signs all around.

My county is replacing most of the high-traffic 4 way stops with roundabouts. I can think of 5 off the top of my head in the most frequent routes I travel.

I admit I was first confuzzled by roundies being from a part of Los Angeles that had never seen a roundabout but out here in Colorado, they're easy to negotiate. I just wish more people would signal when exiting so others know it is safe to jump in. Often waiting until that person has turned results in more waiting. Just as a courtesy I always signal when exiting.

The reason why Americans fail at roundabouts is because they can't take corners. 😛

We have a few here. They are popular in high traffic parking lots, and in some subdivisions. Seem to work OK.

Although when driving through one I can never resist the urge to say:

"Hey look kids, there's Big Ben, and there's Parliament!"

Lots of them in my neighborhood and I wish they would remove them.

People are idiots and do NOT understand what yield means. There's even a fucking DRAWING below the yield sign with instructions.

Some interpretations I've seen
a) Always come to a complete stop
b) Drive 30+mph through the round-a-bout without regard for anyone or anything near or around the intersection
c) Enter round-a-bout having the right of way, then stop in the middle because someone approached from the side
d) Turn left by going clockwise around the round-a-bout 90 degrees
