I'm going to be in TX for training the beginning of next week. Is there anything in Round Rock I should be sure to check out? Any awesome restaurants? Anything fun?

Thanks in advance for any tips.

Plenty.... what do you like to do?

Eat out? Go Outdoors? Party?...

Saltlick is great if you are willing to drive for 50 minutes from Round Rock, they serve Texas style BBQ ribs and are nation famous (County Line is a distant second). Kirby Lane (the original one) is pretty good for late night food, they have a great Queso dip. Rudy's is a really good brisket and BBQ place that serves there own type of BBQ sauce (Quite good eating). Pluckers has the best Buffalo Wings, bar none. Jimmy John's has the best Italian sandwhich, bar none. There is an Organic Restaurant that grows its own vegetables and fruits on the East Side of Dean Keeton and 35 (I believe it becomes Manor Road). Just ask around in Austin, really. Because it is the capital, there are a lot of really nice restaurants around the capital, but I would suggest trying out something with more of a Texas flavor.

For Outdoors, there is Zilker Park, and many, many side parks. Austin is the place to be if you like the outdoors. Lake Travis & Austin are quite nice. You can drive down 6th street and pass Mopac (Hwy 1) and go down Lake Austin Blvd. There is a place called the Hula Hut, for Alcoholic drinks that is right beside the lake. There is also a coffee place called Mozarts right beside that beside the lake, and they usually have live music at night and sometimes in the day. They have a deck and a nice bakery there too. There is a Hiking Trail called Red Bud, which hikes up a small hill and you get to see the lake down below. A lot of biking areas, too.

For the party scene, there is always 6th street, but I prefer a quieter place to get sousted. Dog & Duck is a good place next to Guadelupe street which is right by UT and has some interesting Urban shops. Some really classy places around 6th street, but be prepared to spend $$. 6th street near Lake Austin Blvd. has some cool shops, too.

Hope that helps.

If you like outdoor activities, there are parks through out austin. Look for the Green Belt or Zilker Park. They have biking, hiking, rock climbing, swimming, sun bathing, etc... 4-6th streets for night life, just dont go east of I-35 on those streets. Alamo Draft House for a dinner movie. Pick up a Chronicle, its a free paper that lists whats going on in Austin. Live bands play at many of the bars.

I 2nd the Salt Lick, great food but make sure you bring your own beer...its a dry county (or city?). It is a bit of a drive though from Austin but the hill country scenery is great :p

Nothing in Round Rock - except some awesome donut shop that I can't remember the name of - but as others said check out Austin; sixth street/Congress avenue and so forth. Good times.

Austin totally rocks.
