Round IDE cables from SVC.

Anyone else have round ATA133 IDE cables from SVC? I'm using one for my hard drive (single device cable) and its working fine. But I got one for my CD drives (using same configuration, just different cable) and when my PC booted up the mouse was really laggy, it had like 3 seconds pause between each move. I double clicked 'my computer' and it wouldn't even show anything, just really lagged. I ended up having to shut down my comp and replace it with the original ribbon cable, and now its working fine again (thank goodness). But what is up with this?

I have no idea if its the actual cable itself or the speed of it (ATA133) even though I know its backward compatible with ATA66/100.

I spent good money (well they were actually pretty cheap) for this and I am planning on using these in my new system. But I dont want to if I'm going to have problems.

btw, I also have a round floppy drive cable from them and it seems to be working fine.

Are you setting the drives master/slave via jumpers or are you allowing position on cable determine who is what?

This is interesting, I was going to order some of their rounded ATA133 and floppy cables too. I'll have to see how this thread progresses before I buy from them now.

I have 6 hard drives (4*120 JBs, a 40, and an 80 gig) and 2 cdrom devices and they are all running on rounded cables from SVC, so you dont really have to worry about it.

All right then. I put together a shopping list that includes 8 rounded cables and 2 fan guards. I am going to fix my wife's new computer up with them too. The wiring in her case is so messy, I'm embarrassed by it. But it'll look better soon.

Sometimes optical ATAPI drives don't play nice with single device rounded cables. One thing you might try is to remove the jumper from the drive completely...it might work..or it might not..

blue = controller
black = master
grey = slave

the last two are optional, but double check in case the cable maker actually made the cable like that. and blue is always controller no matter what.

He is using a single device cable...so it's kind of hard to mess up.
