Round cable kit

Just got a set from there, as usual, great, timely service!, the kit contains 1 24" ata100 cable, 1 18" ata100 cable, and 1 24" floppy cable. can't beat the prices and they use fedex shipping so since I am in Indiana here, I usually get it same day!

Thanks again guys for runnin a great operation!

You just need to enter your zip code above your order in the cart, then tell it to recalulate, showed up as 6.29 UPS ground to NJ, so thats definitly not bad, just picked them up actually 😉

No you don't need them. You can use standard ATA100 cables. Rounded cables are just to reduce clutter and to make your computer look good. It has been proven that it doesn't improve air circulation, either.

<< Isnt 24" out of spec for ata 100?
I could be just pulling this outta my a$$ though 😉

Actually, you can take these things as long as you want. 36" is about the longest distance that works 100%. 48" is doable but there is a chance of data corruption.

The ATA100 spec states that 18-in is the maximum, but virtually everyone that has used 24-in cables has never had a problem. I am using a 24-in cable, and it works fine.

Where is information on the circulation on rounded cables?

Perfect timing. My cable just broke off and need a new IDE cable. With this price, I can get a whole set. Thanks Viper45 and welcome aboard.

Yes, IDE specs only says to 18" but I needed a 24" so I asked the guys in the Hardware Forums and they basically said don't go beyond a 24" and you should be fine. At 36", the chances of data corruption are pretty high.

I agree, AAjax, but I do about 80% of my parts business with them, and I have been around Anandtech for almost 3 years (Even got my check as one of the "WMC"). They have some decent stuff at better than average prices. I usually go to their B&M, but have had stuff shipped too. Granted, I can walk in the door for an RMA, so I have not had to deal with that long-distance.

Right now they have been swamped, mostly due to the Anandtech effect. Eric, one of the owners, has been very active here trying to resolve any problems and has been doing a pretty good job of it.

So hopefully you'll give them a try.

Has anyone else ordered these cables? I got some awhile back from bestbyte which had a great price but aren't the greatest quality. I guess you get what you pay for🙂

technically anything over 18" IS out of spec, but its not going to make much of a difference, ask any woman if size matters. and yeah, rounded cables dont make a difference on airflow. people have tested it, i have no links, but u can think about it. air moves wherever it can, it can go around the cables easily, and having it change directions instead of flow straight thru the case might even help get more air flow to the little spots.
