Round Cable Question

Does anybody sell round IDE cables with both the slave and master connectors at the end of the cable? All I've been able to find are cables with the connectors at ~10" and 18". I NEED both connectors at the end and don't want to make a custom cable. I'm looking for an 18" with the connectors located at about 16 and 18 inches.

Connectors are supposed to be a minimum of 6" apart by IEEE standards. But then, who bothers with standards?..

I tried a 36in cable but my pc almost came to a halt when trying to load windows. The actually load took several minutes. Are some M/B not able to handle cable >18"?

The IEEE standard for UATA is 18" max w/ at least 6" between connectors. Anything different and you pays yer money and takes yer chances... You want longer? There's always SATA or SCSI...

I bought some 36" IDE cables off of Newegg and they work fine. Maybe you could try them?

I have my SATA HDDs. These cables are to reach the CD drives. 18" is long enough for the farthest drive but the DVD drive is directly below it without any more open slots.

Hmmmm, can't possibly think what i can do to fix this. the 36" seems to nearly lock up my system and with the 18", the 2nd connector can't reach. What a dilemna.

You could try a 24"er first connector at 18" second 6" farther on. Buy from a good source like Hypermicro.com - should guarantee it to work or money back. Perhaps you could try the Antec Cobra 26". Not cheap, but if you buy from newegg maybe get your money back. NE also has ThermalTake 24" round.. Neither has the "No refund/return" logo on it.

sounds great guys. I'll try the 24" cable with 6" separation. Right now, I'm running SATA hard drives so i have both ide channels open. I've currently connected a cd drive per channel now and it seems like it MAY be working. I'm having various issues with the drives themselves. I know the cd drives should typically run on the secondary channel but will this cause any problems?

Thanks for all the help as usual :)

They should work just fine either as master or slave. Set them to CS and fagedddaboudit...
