Rugby.

Hockey is a close second, but rugby is as tough as hockey and football just without pads. :Q

you have pads... rugby you don't...

in rugby- you dont have a solid rubber ball the size of a baseball being flung at you at 90+ miles an hour and you're not being hit by metal shafts 6 feet long.

id choose hockey over lacrosse - remember that you can go pretty fast on ice and have boards all over the place not to mention legal fighting

I'd have to say either football or rugby. I personally feel they are fairly equal, but overcome other sports in that physical contact is one of the primary points of the game. Just think of what a lineman's job is on a football team....Squat across from another guy...wait...hit him as hard as you can....get ready to do it all again.

It is a rough sport, but if you tacked somebody you would be thrown out. Same goes for Hockey.

Actually now that I think of it Soccer is #1 for emergency room visits (not that I see why).

Ppl should have watched Llanelli vs Leiscester today in the Heineken Cup, over here in the UK, cracking game of rugby.

Soccer players are a bunch of actors. It's funny when you watch the slo-mo instant replays and watch as a player drops to the turf, clutching his eye and screaming after being grabbed on the shoulder by another player. And then of course when the referee doesn't do jack about it, he stops screaming and just gets back up and runs around again.

Note: this is not to say that soccer can't be brutal at times. It's just that half the "injuries" are staged.

I was having this exact same argument with my brother (who happens to live in Australia) actually about whether rugby or football is more brutal. On one hand, rugby players don't wear pads and there are no "wussy QB rules" to protect the players, but on the other hand, football players tend to be larger and with the pads (and helmet), you see a lot more of the spearing and other destructive hits (I find that people tend to hit much harder with pads since they know they're somewhat protected). I think they're both pretty brutal.

All the continental players dive, true (European continent and South American players) but I wouldn't say it's too big a problem amongst English players. Jurgen Klinsmann should have won Oscars for some of his dives....
