Just can seem to get the cpu to acknowledge that it is there.
Power works fine, plugged into my sound card, i can hear it spinning but i get nothing.
When i try to add hardware the cpu scan's for new hardware but it doesnt recognize it. Something i'm missing?

Welcome to the ATF.

Do you have both cables connected to the drive properly. Sometimes it seems that the power connector is plugged in all the way and it really isn't or one of the contacts can get pushed out. And if you're using an 80-wire data cable, it won't work unless the blue end is plugged into the mobo.
. Other than that, you need to set the jumper properly. M if it's the only drive on the cable or S or CS if there was already another drive there and what its jumper is set to.

Ok starting to understand where you're going...
How do i set the jumper?
I have a dvd rom in the first drive and then i put in the cd burner in the next open slot.

on the back of the drive will be a jumper with three choices MA SL CL put the burner for SL which is slave, i bet its on MA right now and conflicting with your dvd drive...
