This thing is sweet. I spent my birthday money and finally bought a digital camera. Thought I'd share my initial pictures. Sorry for the size.

Boogie and his antler - I like the lone light in the background. Makes him look more ominous.

Who could argue with a face like this?

Baby fight!!!!!! - poor, poor baby.

How do you keep the cat still long enough to take a picture? - everything else is in nice focus except she is too close :|

Last one - the ham

(files are about 400K each. I only had time to shrink one do for a wallpaper and I still haven't found the red eye reduction but the demonic dog eyes work for him.

What a beautiful doggie! I have a yellow lab and a chocolate lab myself. I love them to death.

As far as taking pics of the cat goes, just don't get THAT close, and wait till he/she's snoozing. They sleep 18 hours a day, it shouldn't be that hard. I like surprising my cat. :p

Please don't rub it in, I want the Canon PowerShot A40 sooo badly, the reviews are awesome, I've seen and played with the digicam in person at OfficeMax B&M.

I really need to cut down my spending on toys, however if I see it for around $200 (doubt it'll happen anytime soon) I'll be tempted to BUY IT!

Or if I can get a decent $ for my Fuji Finepix 1400 on eBay then I might consider upgrading to the A40.

You are a bad bad bad influence.

Cutting up my cards, freezing, burying or giving my cards to my wife would do nothing to curb my Hot Deals addiction.

I'd just call and get a replacement cc sent to me, in the mean time I have cc bills laying around which have the cc numbers and I can guess on the expiration date.

But I so badly want/need/lust after the Canon A40.

Only after making that one last purchase.

As far as the cat goes. If you get within 10 feet of her, she thinks you are coming to amuse her. That was the 6th time I tried to take a picture of her and was doing well until I started to take the picture then she started towards me. I figured I might as well try to salvage it.

I was surprised at how well these pictures looked on the tv when I had it hooked up. It was a pleasant surprise.

Aphex, you should see the aim logs. I told him his wife should cut them up, call for replacement, and hide them.

Amnesiac thanks for the compliment - I'll pass it along to the fool (I mean dog) and his mother (the real owner).

Rossman: sorry about that but you just keep talking about this camera.

LOL It's alright, this just reaffirms what a great digicam this is. I'll buy it eventually, I hope.

Got one myself a couple of months ago too. Along with a 256 MB CF card too :) 2,855 640x480 pics or 545 1024x768 super fine res. pics. Also I recommend getting recharageable batteries if you haven't, that flash will eat them up.

For your close up of the cat did you try to change the setting for close up pictures? The button below the icons of the flower/2 people/mountain?

I hadn't changed anything for the cat picture. The original shot was of her about 5 ft away but as soon as she saw me playing with the camera to take the shot, she decided to see what I was doing.

I did find an excellent way to get a decent picture of her. OR at least to make sure she stays in one place for a little while. Wait until she is hiding under the table outside in a rain storm. How's this?

That looks pretty good, except for a second I thought your cat had a purple tongue.

Johnnie - Sorry to hear your order has been delayed, the Canon A40 is quite a popular digicam.

Since Oregon has no sales tax I think I'm gonna order from OfficeMax instead, I might try OM B&M tonight if that doesn't work I can order online.

Now I gotta come up with a good BS line since the product IS available online now.

I just spent the extra $40 or so and got it at a local camera shop. I was in there looking through several cameras and probably spent a good half hour deciding between the A40 and a Pentax that was the same price. The clerk said the Pentax would give better pictures but I saw the reversible LCD display as something to break in my hands and the batteries were an issue. I have tons of rechargeable AAs and not having to worry about stocking spare batteries that I can't use in anything else and might be hard to find in a pinch did not appeal to me. I will probably pick up some Tiffan lenses at some point in time for it.

I'm a firm believer in buying local. All of our computers are built locally because when soemthing goes wrong, I know I can simply cart the thing over to their store and sit it on a desk and say fix it and don't call me until its fixed. I guess I'm old fashioned but I also digress.

Guess what I just did?

;)

Yep I bought the Canon PowerShot A40 for $249 at OfficeMax B&M just brought in a printed copy of the OfficeMax.com $50 off $250 coupon, they took it right off.

I also purchased their 2 year extended warranty for $39.99. In the event that something happens to the camera or it breaks, I call a toll free number and they send me a $249 OfficeMax gift card which can be used for anything at OfficeMax. I don't have to ship in the digital camera for repair. The warranty coverage starts today.

:p

Not to my knowledge unless there's an adapter I don't know about.

AFAIK it only takes CF media.
