Rosie: No Surrender

by The Associated Press

(New York City) Rosie O'Donnell says Donald Trump is a man obsessed.

"It's the way I look. He can't resist. I love when people say you're fat like you don't know,'' O'Donnell joked Monday on ABC's The View.

"... It's always the first comment of someone who disagrees with you if you happen to be on the plus side.''

Trump has been hurling insults at O'Donnell since she criticized his news conference with Miss USA Tara Conner last month. Trump announced that Conner would be allowed to keep her title, which had been in jeopardy because of underage drinking.

"Boy, did I hit a nerve with that guy,'' O'Donnell said Monday, calling Trump a "comb-over bunny'' for his relentless attacks on her, which include saying that Barbara Walters, creator of "The View,'' had told him she didn't want the 44-year-old comedian on the show.

Walters said Monday that Trump's remarks were "totally untrue'' and expressed a wish that "we could rise above it.''

"It's not we, it's him,'' said O'Donnell. "He's doing every show in America. He's on QVC talking ...''

"The guy, he's obsessed with me, obviously,'' she said.

Trump, in a statement to The Associated Press, said O'Donnell had gotten it wrong.

"I used the word 'slob,' I used the word 'degenerate' and I used the words 'not very smart.' The word 'fat' played a very small role, if any, in my description of her," he said.

On Monday's show, O'Donnell said she went shopping recently and "all of these plus-size women'' with "tears in their eyes'' approached her with words of support.

"He wounded millions of women by saying that I was fat, you know?''

Trump is the owner of the Miss Universe Organization, which includes Miss USA and Miss Teen USA.

The new season of his NBC reality show, ``The Apprentice,'' premiered Sunday night.

Rosie's observations are accurate, as ever. I've noticed here on anandtech that just about everyone who dislikes or disagrees with Rosie feels the need to make a comment about her weight.

I was going to post something here, but then realized I may be jeopardizing my dude license and possibly breaking a couple of man rules.

It could be because everytime Rosie opens her mouth it is about her weight

Well she got what she deserved for throwing the first attack. What the hell did she expect? She's a fat slob and people will point it out. I'm tired of all this PC crap that America tries to tip-toe around. We keep making excuses for overweight people, validating them. In essence, we are telling them it's OK to be overweight--it's not (healthy)!

I found it funny he was on the website "365gay.com"

365gay.com is the best site for a summary of recent news articles pertaining to the lesbian and gay communities. I don't see anything particularly funny about it

So its an ok argument to say someone is lazy, to call them a procrastinator, or to say they are selfish, but its not ok to say they are fat?

While I realize that saying someone is fat is starting to get into attacks on their looks, I'd also put all the aforementioned attributes in the same category. They are all something you have control over, and as such speak to your character. If I'm lazy, thats my fault, and I can do better. If I procrastinate, or don't care about anyone else, thats also something that I'm doing, whether conciously or unconciously, but it can be changed. Being overweight is......someone else's fault???

Everything about someone's body can be a form of expression, which is basically the whole thing behind tatoos, piercings, hair coloring, etc. So, shouldn't your weight fall into that category? If I'm overweight isn't that saying, I let myself get this bad?

her comments weren't exactly an "attack" - she just made an astute observation on how absurd it is that a 2-time wife- and child-deserter (i.e., Trump) gets to be the moral compass for young Americans. She also did a great job mocking the comb-over and puffy lips.

She isn't a slob, she is always well groomed and I see no evidence of her being lazy. I wouldn't even call her fat. She probably weighs less than your mother.

let me paraphrase the above in easy to understand language -- She isn't a fat ugly slob, she is always well groomed fat ugly slob and I see no evidence of her being lazy, except for shes a fat, ugly working slob. I wouldn't even call her fat...nope shes not fat....shes humongously fat. In fact when she goes to the airport the taxi cab drivers get mad when she wears a yellow dress......people try to flag her down thinking shes a cab. In fact if she was to lose all that fat ugly weight she would probably weighs less than your mother.

your comments are really just proving Rosie's point, which is that small minded men with small penises tend to latch on to the first thing their small brains can think of... i.e., Rosie's weight. Meanwhile you miss the important point, which is that Donald Trump is now a moral guardian or moral gatekeeper of America. I know who the "sucker" is, and it isn't Rosie, it is you.

Care to respond to my post up the page?

I understand Rosie's point about it being hypocritical that Trump is acting as moral guardian for Miss USA, but Rosie's weight says something about her, just like Trump's divorces say something about him.

Trump chose to get divorced, Trump chose to have relationships the way that he does, and that affects how we see him morally and as a person.

Rosie has let herself become overweight, and that affects how we see her as a person.

Apart from the fact that maybe Trump has made poor personal choices in life, the Miss USA organization is owned by him. Him deciding Miss USA's fate by encouraging her to go through rehab to retain her title seemed like the best course of action. What would Rosie prefer him to do? Sell the company because he isn't morally perfect? Shall we have our Presidents step down since they're not morally perfect? At what point do people learn to have some perspective about what they're saying before they say it? If The View ever talks about health improvements should Rosie be allowed to make comments since she can't be a guiding point for healthy lifestyles? Should all doctors be in perfect shape when they tell their patients to lose weight or lower their cholestrol? It's silly for Rosie to point out things like this and she does it purposely for shock value just like her mockery of Asian languages recently. Why shouldn't someone strike back?

Anyways, any publicity is good publicity for these two.

If Rosie was skinny, she would have no fans. The only reason why she's so popular is because she's so fat that most american woman can relate to her plight.

says more about you (how superficial you are) than it does about Rosie. :)

So if I hammer a nail through my nose and walk around with it still bleeding, you're not going to judge me? :)

The need to skip a meal isn't a "plight".

Yup, and the cows with tears in their eyes should put down the remote and pick up a pair of running shoes.
