I know, I know, the thread title made you groan before you even clicked it... but bear with me for a minute...

Anyone out there using these? I notice they have a wiiide array of products, and honestly they don't all suck... I have a Rosewill gaming headset, and TBH, it kicks ass...

I was browsing for a power supply for a new build and came across this:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16817182066

Srsly? 80+ Gold?

Can they really be that bad?

Opinions welcomed as always!

No. Rosewill has a few decent PSUs. They also have a few crap PSUs. Then there are the mediocre Rosewill PSUs. The trick is to determine which are which.

Usually, the ones that are 80Plus or better are at least not the crap ones.

just spend the money and get a known good PSU from Antec, XFX, Corsair, or seasonic. Worth spending the extra money on a PSU especially.

Even if there are some decent models it doesn't seem like its really worth the effort to sort it all out when brand name PSUs can be had for similar prices.

Efficiency is not something you should worry about much. What you should worry about: the Rosewill only has one-year warranty (!). Much more important than efficiency is the requirement of clean power quality and stability, and there is unfortunately no advertised certification for that so you have to go with trusted manufacturers and/or units reviewed positively by reliable sites.

If you want a 400W PSU, get a Corsair CX430 V2. Even though it's only 80+, it's probably more reliable than the Rosewill. Alternatives: Antec EA430D, Antec Neo Eco 400C. Or get a CX500 V2 for the extra PCIe connector. If you want an 80+ Gold or better, it's not so much for the reason that it's efficient but that it's silent. I'm referring to Seasonic X-series and Kingwin Lazer Platinum 550W.

Thanks for the input guys :)

I'm not buying a Rosewill PSU, I'm just making conversation and talking about them... There's no much info on them (possibly for good reason) so I figured anything we talk about would be searchable in the future!

My neighbor bought a RAIDMAX PSU for his new build D: :'(

I can tell you the newer Rosewill's are improving.

OCZ level at this point.

Kingwin used to be junk, now they are making awesome PSU's for the most part.

I stick with Seasonic as they've never done me wrong in 10 years.

I've had my Rosewill 1000W, and brought it through its paces (up to 700W) since February now. It's constantly at 700W, since I'm doing distributed computing with my GPUs and CPU. Quiet, and it does its job. I've been a pretty happy customer so far.

Rosewill Hives are quality Sirfa units. The higher end modular Rosewills are made by Superflower. I think they have 3+ year warranties.

I have one of their units that I have been using on and off for a couple of years now. No issues with it. It's one of the models with the 3 year warranty, not that it matters.
Currently it is powering one of my computers running folding at home 24/7. it's a 550w unit (not certified).

It is quiet. Would I trust it for my main machine? Had to for a few months until I came across a good deal for a seasonic. Not sure I would ever buy another one unless it was dirt cheap (which this one was).

I've used a few Rosewill supplies in budget gaming builds that see very heavy use every day and they work fine.

However, if you're doing stuff like overclocking, core-unlocking (AMD), etc. then I strongly recommend something by Antec, Corsair, or PC Power and Cooling (I haven't really used any other brands).

I had a 450W 80+ Rosewill that lasted for 3.5 years then failed with a pop and lots of smoke. The good news is that it only took itself out, it didn't destroy anything else attached to it.

Most (but not all) Rosewill PSU's are pretty decent. They tend to be built by either Sirfa or Super Flower.

That said, you get what you pay for. If you get a cheap Rosewill power supply, it's probably a cheap power supply. ;)

Don't listen to this guy. It's not like he actually knows a damned thing about power supplies..

Oh wait...yes he does. His site is (IMO) the best resource for power supply information on the web.

Personally, I wouldn't want a Rosewill power supply for my computer, but they're usually not the worst of the worst.
