Rosewill combo drive won't read data DVD

i recently configured a computer with this drive. It is recognized by windows as a combo drive and is running under a windows driver. CDs read fine and i have tried one movie DVD that was read but did not play due to software issues most likely.

however, when i try to read a data DVD, explorer crashes on me. i went to the rosewill site and found only a firmware upgrade which i downloaded and installed. After restarting, i still can't read the data DVD. Anyone have any ideas? any driver suggestions?

EDIT: I guess it does read data DVDs but does so very slowly and won't autoplay them OR run any of the files. This is Far Cry btw.

Is the data DVD a burned one or a pressed one and have you tested it in another drive besides yours and the one it was burned in?

i've tested it in another drive and it works. it is the retail far cry dvd.
