Rosewill Capstone 450 or Cooler Master V550?

I'm in the process of building a new system that consists of the following parts: Intel Core i3-4150, AsRock H97M Anniverssary, 8GB Kingston HyperX Fury, 120GB Samsung 840 Evo and a 3.5" HDD,

The primary purpose of this system will be an everyday pc /htpc. In the future I may add a few more case fans, a couple more HDD's and maybe a Nvidia 750/750Ti. Currently, I have an old Corsair CX400, that I was thinking of reusing, but now I'm thinking about getting a new, more efficent psu. The main two I've been contemplating are the Rosewill Capstone 450W and the Cooler Master V550. Would one of these be a good choice or are they too much psu? Is it even worth replacing the CX400? Are there other options you would recommend? My budget is in the $70-80 range and though I perfer Amazon and Newegg, I'll purchase from others if they have what I'm looking for.

With the additional HDD's, GTX 750 Ti video card, and extra fans, a quality PSU rated at a minimum of 350W is suggested.

The "old" CX400 should really be replaced because of degradation due to aging and use.

Recommend this PSU for quality and performance.

If there's nothing wrong with the cx400, I'd keep using that. It was released 5 years ago, and being a Seasonic build, it should atill be just fine for a system like yours. Just don't go further than 750 ti.

Efficiency alone isn't a good enough reason to upgrade, the power savings just aren't substantial enough to justify the initial cost. If you find the cx400 too noisy, or if it shows signs of instability, then upgrading makes sense.

Yes, the Corsair CX400 is manufactured by SeaSonic, but it uses some lower grade components which in turn questions the (long term) reliability and available capacity of the CX400. It is primarily because of this that the CX400 PSU is recommended to be replaced.

I would agree with lehtv... typical HTPC duty, even with an i3, requires very little power requirement, especially with no GPU or a power-thrifty one like the GTX750... and, just so you are aware, with Haswell there is really no requirement for a GPU in standard HTPC duty... not unless you are gaming, etc on it.

The CX400 still seems to be working fine, in it's current Athlon II X3 setup, so I think I'll hold off on a new psufor a while longer and reuse it with the i3. Thanks for the help.
