Rosetta's Stone; Is it worth it?

I love foreign languages, they sound rich and saying them would be fun to speak. Many benefits unroll if you know more then one language, enough of my opinions. What do you think of Rosetta's Stone? Is it worth the 50 bucks or is it trash.

I'd really like to hear from someone that has tried this also. My wife has taken spanish 1-3 but needs spanish 4, she wanted to try it to see if it would help (she struggled with spanish 3)..

Anyone?

Let your curiosity be like a monkey in a pinata. Hiding inside with the candy, hoping the children dont break through with the stick.

This place is getting worst and worst by the day with all of the smart answers that ones gets instead of a straight response.

That might be the reason why they have so many posts.

Sorry Evolvebullet, I don't have an answer for you but at least I'm not being a wise guy like the others.

I'd be curious on a review of the software language products too; but don't let that stop the dumbarse comments.

Yo're right. Im sorry. Posts need to be relevant .

A post with no relelevance is like a horseless carriage.

Look for the Pimsleur audio CD series. It's amazing. I have both Spanish and Japanese lessons. Really easy to pick up. My biggest problem though is I can be lazy and it's hard to force myself to just sit and listen and repeat. If you can, you'd probably learn better in an actual class.

I thought you were talking about the real stone, and I was going to say "No, it's not worth a special trip to the British Museum just to see it."

i've tried it. here's my personal take on it.

i'm not impressed. i only got through 3-4 lessons, but i would've expected to have been able to put together simple sentences after that. all it does is drill you in vocabulary. what good does that do if you can't put the words together?

better off going with pimsleur.

Agreed. I went through about 4-5 lessons of German prior to taking an Intro to German class and it helped with vocabulary, but not much else.

btw puffff, have you considered posting a "one year later" update to your blog about how it was like adjusting back to normal life, future plans, etc on your blog? i still check it occasionally for updates 🙂

Ive used it, didn't like it at all. Id rather have a book instead to be honest.

$40 book > $200 software

Improve your English before you think of learning a foreign language.
Agreed. Maybe if you take some ESL classes "many benefits will unroll" for you.

Completely agree with you there. I strongly suggest the 500 verbs books for Spanish, German and French they help immensely. I think they're around $20 each. I'm not sure what other languages they exist for but it goes through every possible tense of each verb. Then all you'll need is just a book with some nouns hehe.

I've been checking this out for awhile, but like some of us here, I've also been too lazy to brush up on my high school german.

German

Can't hurt to try it out, it's free.

A friend gave me one as a gift. Cool at first, but I'm not comfortable with it. I have a 8 CD Pimsleur set I got from Costco for 30 bucks. And that collection rocks. I am actually comfortable enough to do some bad, broken German with their natives. I may sound like an idiot in German (okay and in English), but they will get what I am saying.

I've used it (didn't pay for it) and I'm not too impressed. It doesn't really teach you sentence structure at all. It can help with pronunciation though.
